How to Choose a 3 1/8-Inch (80 mm) Thermal Roll

Match the roll diameter

In the new 48 GSM range, 230 ft is about 69 mm OD, 270–273 ft about 73 mm, and 290–292 ft about 76 mm. More footage is useful only when the printer has enough clearance.

The 165 ft format uses heavier 80 GSM paper and measures about 74 mm OD. Higher GSM changes paper feel, thickness and how quickly a roll reaches its finished diameter.

Why is the 165 ft roll still about 74 mm in diameter?+

It uses heavier 80 GSM paper. Thicker paper reaches a larger finished diameter with less total footage, so length alone does not determine roll size.
