What size thermal paper roll does my printer need?
The answer depends on the specific model, not the brand alone. Many compact payment terminals use nominal 57 mm paper and many countertop receipt printers use nominal 80 mm paper. But the same paper width can be sold in different roll diameters and lengths. A thermal roll is appropriate only for direct-thermal equipment; an impact kitchen printer may instead require bond or carbonless paper and an ink ribbon. 1. Start with the printer or terminal model
The safest starting point is the exact equipment model. Two printers that both use 3 1/8-inch paper can have different maximum roll diameters, paper thickness limits or centre requirements. 2. Understand the two common receipt widths
2 1/4 in (about 57–58 mm) is common in payment terminals, compact printers and mobile POS devices. 3 1/8 in (about 80 mm) is the standard full-size receipt width used by many countertop restaurant and retail printers. These measurements describe the width of the paper web, not the outside diameter of the roll.

For 3 1/8-inch paper, businesses now have more choices than only 200 and 225 ft. 5. BPA-Free vs Phenol-Free
“BPA-Free” and “Phenol-Free” are not interchangeable claims. A BPA-Free roll excludes BPA but can use another developer chemistry.
