A printed receipt can do more than document a transaction. The back can carry a logo, return policy, promotion, loyalty message, QR code or other useful information. For chains and franchises, this turns an existing consumable into another branded customer touchpoint.
What can be printed on a thermal roll?
Depending on the project, content can include logos, text, simple icons, conditions, coupons, QR codes and promotional messages. Readability comes first: artwork designed for a screen is not always suitable for flexographic printing on paper.

How many colours can be used?
MediaJab can produce flexographic projects with multiple colours depending on artwork and press configuration. Smaller programs are often most efficient with one or two colours. Additional colours can require additional plates and setup.
Why are gradients more difficult?
Flexographic printing is excellent for solid colours, simple logos, text and clean line work. Fine gradients, complex shadows and photographic effects can be harder to reproduce consistently. Simplifying artwork is often the best approach when brand accuracy matters.
How should artwork be prepared?
- Vector logo whenever possible
- Pantone or precise colour references
- Text large enough to remain readable
- QR code tested at final print size
- Clear space around important elements
- Final approved artwork before plate production
Minimum quantities and plates
Printed programs have a higher production threshold than plain white rolls because they require artwork preparation, plates, ink and press setup. The exact minimum depends on format and project. For some standard programs, MediaJab can work from approximately 20 cases of 50 rolls; always confirm the current minimum when requesting pricing.
Plate charges can apply per colour. Once plates have been produced and retained for a recurring design, repeat orders are generally simpler to bring back into production.
What lead time should you plan for?
A project normally includes artwork approval, plate preparation, production and delivery. As a general planning guide, a standard program can take roughly three weeks from final artwork to receipt, depending on volume and destination. Rush requirements should be discussed before final approval.
Front or back printing?
In most receipt programs, the front remains available for thermal transaction printing while custom content is flexographically printed on the back. Other configurations may be possible. Wind direction and artwork orientation should be confirmed in the final proof.
Who benefits most from custom receipt printing?
Custom printing is especially useful for retailers, franchises, restaurants, events, loyalty programs and organizations that repeatedly order the same roll format. For a very small one-time quantity, standard white rolls are usually more economical.
Bottom line
A strong printed-roll program combines simple artwork, a stable roll specification and volume that fits the printing process. To prepare a quote, send the roll size, number of colours, colour references, estimated volume and artwork file. Our team can then prepare a custom quote.
